Currently on display at the Washington Historical Society Museum is an exhibit about the Washington Turn Verein. The exhibit tells the story of the Turn Verein's history and of its founder Franz Wilhelmi. The exhibit contains many outstanding photos and artifacts including the Civil War swords and pistol owned by Wilhelmi, Captain of Co. G of Missouri's 17th “Turner Rifle Regiment”.

In 1856 a dozen young German men began the Washington Turn Verein. Did they have any idea that it would become the physical, cultural and social center of Washington for the next sixty years? The era of the Turn Verein was extremely important to the growth and development of Washington. This exhibit helps us understand why.
